Annika Blanke looks right where it hurts—and talks about it. That’s important and right—and above all, one thing: highly entertaining! For over fifteen years, the Oldenburg-based slam poet and cabaret artist has been performing on a wide variety of stages throughout the German-speaking world, captivating audiences with her clever lyrics and unique delivery. In her brand-new solo show, Annika Blanke once again explores the boundaries between the tragic, the thought-provoking, and the humorous: She tells stories of people in search of small moments of happiness and how they deal with the world’s biggest contradictions. And, almost in passing, she once again sheds light on life’s big questions: What does a deceased Austrian philosopher have to do with a Swedish built-in kitchen? What are the consequences of trying to be absolutely consistent in one’s actions? What is a “smile zone”? And when was the last time we actually thought about Afghanistan?
