He sings with that engaging charm that probably only very few singers in Portugal exude. When António Zambujo tells of the perils of life with a humility that is hard to grasp, it is all too easy to forget the actual gravity of the subject.
For António Zambujo, it was clear from an early age that he would one day become a singer. Anyone who comes from Beja has all the prerequisites for this, since the city in the south of Portugal is considered the heart of the Cante Alentejano, the traditional singing style honored by UNESCO. In his early days still strongly committed to fado, Zambujo's spectrum has long since broadened: with his excellent quartet, the 48-year-old confidently combines jazz with pop, Brazilian with modern Portuguese songwriting.
