Together, we want to develop a socio-ecological, district-based usage concept. To this end, partial areas are to be taken over by operators from Altona and the building block is to be developed and expanded step by step - as a green place, supported by and for local communities.

Two years ago, the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper called the parking garage at Altona station the "parking garage of horror". Although the city has invested, the upper levels in particular are still largely empty. Why is that?

Our theory is that there is a lack of a concept that is developed together with the district. After all, a parking garage can be more than just a place to park cars. Thanks to its central location, it can connect different neighborhoods - and offer space for new ideas, cooperation and communal use.

We would like to consider together how the "parking garage of horror" can become a "parking garage of the neighborhood". The starting point is the roof of the multi-storey parking lot: in a brainstorming session, we will explore the place together, let it have an effect on us and develop initial suggestions for possible uses. We talk about the current status of the project, previous approaches and existing challenges - and get into conversation with each other.

The idea is that the initial use starts on the roof, proves itself there and can then gradually be extended to other levels. The aim is not to replace existing mobility use, but to complement it in a meaningful way.

Stakeholders can lease space - on the basis of a jointly developed usage concept that continues to evolve. The use can be temporary or longer-term, depending on requirements.

Possible uses include: neighborhood kitchen, rooftop gardening, cultural and information events, flea market, micro-architecture, services for the homeless, bicycle workshop, sports areas, mini-golf, lending library, production/trade and much more.
