18:00 "So these women! - you better start your diary!" The diaries of Alice Schmidt
With Karen Duve and Susanne Fischer
Moderated by Michaela Nowotnick
When Arno Schmidt received his first publishing contract for the volume "Leviathan" in September 1948, he suggested to his wife that she keep a diary to document his life as a writer. Initially, Alice Schmidt dedicated her notes entirely to this chronicle, but after a short time she made the life story her own and created an original work with her diaries that deserves attention. Arno Schmidt's sensitivities are just as much a theme as his initially deprived everyday life. The author Karen Duve and Susanne Fischer, Managing Director of the Arno Schmidt Foundation, will read from Alice Schmidt's diaries and talk about the document.
20:00 The correspondence between Arno Schmidt and Max Bense
With the team of editors
Moderated by Roland Berbig
Arno Schmidt was searching for new economic possibilities when he met the philosopher and Stuttgart professor Max Bense in 1952. Bense, in turn, saw his theories on German literature confirmed by Schmidt's texts. An intensive exchange developed at times, which also reflected an important piece of German literary and cultural history. Alina Bernholt, Mateu Carreras-Solé, Emira Donlagic, David Jainz, Felix Latendorf, Asuka Toriyama, Danae Vraha and Michaela Nowotnick will read from the correspondence edition published last year and provide an insight into an unusual student project.
