Arno Schmidt accompanied his writing and life with short notes in daily notebooks. Those from the years 1957 to 1962 have been preserved and have now been published in full. It covers the Schmidts' move from Darmstadt to Bargfeld as well as the writing of the novels "Die Gelehrtenrepublik" and "KAFF auch Mare Crisium" and the stories from "Kühe in Halbtrauer". Literary work, readings, correspondence, financial worries, everyday married life and the stresses and strains of moving house - everything is reflected. There are flashes of literary interest, letters from readers are mentioned and sometimes even answered. The literary scholar Jan Philipp Reemtsma presents the edition with the editor Susanne Fischer.
