With ANASTASIA SOSUNOVA
Not Afraid of Art - under this title, the academy members and international artists are collaborating with the Cologne art scene as part of a three-year project. The aim is to create a space for shared learning and to cultivate an understanding of the social and political potential of art.
The exhibition of the same name in the ADKDW Studio deals with the themes of power and fear and shows artistic positions by Barış Doğrusöz, Kanitha Tith, Anastasia Sosunova, Buket Isgören, Žiga Sever.
In her works, Anastasia Sosunova deals with the question of identity formation in communities. The focus is on unifying elements such as neighborhood, religion or tradition, where she attempts to critically question power structures and highlight new forms of communication and coexistence. The work Hell's Machine (2023) shows the recomposition of parts of former printing presses that were used in a publishing house undiscovered by the KGB for publications dealing with patriotic, nationalist, anti-Soviet and religious themes as well as Lithuanian literature, poetry, history, politics and philosophy.
The exhibition Not Afraid of Art is accompanied by supporting events and artist talks. The Artist Talks are a series of events in which the artists of the biannually changing exhibition of the Academy of the Arts of the World talk about their work. In the rooms of the ADKDW, we invite you to enter into a relationship with the artists and their work in the context of lectures or moderated discussions.
