ArtNight- Techniken der Malerei: Abstrakte Komposition

In this ArtNight you will learn step by step the basics of abstract composition. You'll learn all about the eight principles of art, which colors you can best combine with each other, how to give your paintings spatiality and what effects you can create with expressive contrasts. In the end, you'll put your new knowledge to artistic use and create your own abstract artwork on canvas.

What you will learn

Creative painting techniques, simply explained! In these painting classes, we'll take your skills to a whole new level. It is not about a specific motif that you can paint, but we teach you basic techniques of certain art styles, which you can then easily apply to any number of motifs of your choice.

Acrylic

Acrylic paint is a real all-rounder! Applied thinly, you can achieve watercolor effects with it, thickly applied a high color intensity. It can be diluted with water, dries quickly, is odorless and waterproof when dry.

Putty

With the spatula you can achieve great color effects and create a wide variety of structures that would be impossible with a brush. Depending on how you hold the spatula and the pressure you apply, you can influence the strength and shape of the paint application or removal.

Wet-on-wet

The wet-on-wet technique is about working quickly to directly apply the just-applied, still-wet paint or to blend it with another layer of paint. It can be used to create beautiful organic and soft color transitions.

Pastos

Pastose paint application, also called impasto technique, can usually be identified by the relief-like application of the paint. It is an application of paint that you can often not only see, but even feel. So this technique is about applying the paint as opaque, and often thick, as possible.

Glaze

The glazing technique, or glazed paint application, is all about thinning the paint and getting the timing right. The goal is to create delicate (glazing), translucent layers of paint that do not cover. While we do not work with glazing paint, we can achieve very similar effects with acrylic paint.
