In the organizer's words:

Nazi forced labor was a widespread crime committed on a daily basis during World War II. After the war, however, forced laborers remained among the forgotten victims of the war for decades. Most of the companies that had profited from forced labor long denied any responsibility, and the belated process of coming to terms with the past was an arduous struggle, driven primarily by survivors and a committed civil society.

In this panel discussion, we therefore want to focus on the following questions: What role do companies play today in coming to terms with their own Nazi past? How can companies successfully raise employees’ awareness of Nazi history within their own organizations and strengthen a sense of responsibility today? And can profession-specific historical and political education at memorial sites contribute to this?

Guests:
Rebekka Cöster, Arbeit und Leben Sachsen e.V.
Nelson Rustemeyer, Leipzig Public Transportation Authority
Isabel Panek, Leipzig Memorial to Forced Labor

Moderator: AnjaNeubert, University of Leipzig
