As part of the Baila España festival by steptext dance project and Instituto Cervantes
A BEGINNING #16161D is like a journey from darkness to light, as if we were at the beginning of time. With a cappella singing and moving light sources, Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou reunite the original physical connection between voice and dance. Sound is a movement that can be heard. And light is a movement that makes the world visible.
In simplicity and reduction, A BEGINNING #16161D ignites the power of the performing arts as a physical narrative about the material of which the universe is made - life as a force field. Resonances between bodies blur the boundaries between the individual and the collective and allow us to dream of new constellations.
#16161D, or intrinsic grey, is the color we see in absolute darkness. This color, which is not black, is a kind of optical illusion produced by our retina, which, on the other hand, under light conditions, is able to perceive pure black in a completely black object.
"Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou have touched the sky with A BEGINNING. [...] It is a discovery that is being premiered and that deserves a major tour to share this intangible emotion that inexplicably moistens the eyes by opening up and revealing corners of the soul in its own catacombs."
Jordi Sora - RECOMANA.CAT
"A BEGINNING is so far one of the best discoveries of this Grec. (Festival) [...] Bauzà and Jou's piece begins with absolute darkness and a cappella music to take us on a sonic and mystical journey, an experience that is both individual and collective."
