Ausstellung „gefährdet leben“ – Queere Menschen 1933–1945

In the organizer's words:

Exhibition “Living in Danger” – Queer People 1933–1945

Starting on theCSD weekend, July 4, 2026, the nationwide traveling exhibition“Living in Danger: Queer People 1933–1945”by the Magnus Hirschfeld Federal Foundation will be on view atSt. Johanneskirche in Cologne-Deutz

The exhibition tells the life stories of queer people during the Nazi era. It highlights how exclusion, persecution, and violence destroyed the lives of many people—but at the same time, it tells of courage, self-assertion, and the struggle to lead a self-determined life despite the most adverse circumstances. Through photographs, documents, quotes, and previously little-known biographies, the exhibition offers a powerful glimpse into a long-suppressed chapter of German history.

Especially around the time of CSD, the exhibition invites visitors to look back: at people who were deprived of visibility, freedom, and dignity—and at why remembrance remains a responsibility for our society even today.
