Exhibition “From the Nail Bomb to the Memorial—22 Years AFTERWARD”

On June 9, 2004, a nail bomb exploded on Keupstrasse in Cologne-Mülheim. Twenty-two people were injured, many of them seriously. For years, the investigation mistakenly focused on the victims’ own circles—until 2011, when it emerged that the National Socialist Underground (NSU) was behind the attack. The wound remains open to this day.

Since 2025, the educational initiative “Keupstrasse is Everywhere—Remember, Educate, Change” e.V. has had a permanent home at Schanzenstrasse 22 dedicated to remembrance, education, and community engagement. 

In the first half of 2026, approximately 2,000 visitors viewed the exhibition “From the Nail Bomb to the Memorial—22 Years AFTERWARD”: high school students, college students, scholars, and politicians from the city, state, and federal levels. This is not a museum. It is a space dedicated to remembrance and education. 

The exhibition is secured through 2029—made possible by the support of Jamestown, the building’s owner, the City of Cologne, and Sparkasse KölnBonn. 

A visit on this day makes double sense: local.cologne is taking place for the sixth time—organized by Koelnistkool, starting at 2 p.m. in the courtyard right next door. Handcrafted jewelry, fashion, curated vintage pieces, interior design, and art—all with free admission. A great place to reflect on what you’ve just seen and heard while enjoying a cool drink.
