The history of our society is familiar with the fact that subsequent generations are affected by the inhumane and warlike actions of their fathers and mothers or suffer their consequences. The Old Testament speaks of "the passing on of the iniquity of the fathers to the children down to the third and fourth generation", Freud described this process as "emotional inheritance".
The three Munich artists Nana Dix, Anja Frers and Uschi Siebauer dedicate their exhibition to the subject of transgenerational transmission. They represent the third (indirectly) affected war generation (Generation Transmission). The artists are concerned with the question of how war, nationalist ideology, Christian tradition and authoritarian educational ideals shaped their parents and grandparents and which of these traumas and patterns they still carry with them today. To this end, they opened their families' photo albums and thus broke the "conspiratorial silence". The artists' pictures tell their personal stories - they take a look at transmitted shadows and patterns, they search for the unsaid and show the obvious.

In the exhibitions Generation Transmission, Pictured (22.02-24.03) and Dancing with the Enemy (11.04-19.05), which the Pasinger Fabrik is combining under the title How we became what we are , both visual and performing artists deal with formative patterns of the perpetrator and victim generations from opposing perspectives. What was talked about and what was kept quiet in the decades following the Second World War and the Shoah? This legacy between the generations lives on as history in each of us and forms the core of what the Pasinger Fabrik is dedicated to, accompanied by a rich supporting program.
