Avatar explore the dark soul of alternative and melodic death metal - and this for 20 years with great success. With their current, ninth album "DanceDevil Dance", which was released in February of this year, they teach Beelzebub how to dance - true to the title - and entered the top ten of the UK rock charts with this album, among others. The quintet around singer, keyboardist and trumpeter Johannes Eckerström and guitarist and main songwriter Jonas "Kungen" Jarlsby is much more interested in the further development of their multi-layered metal sound. This was most recently demonstrated by "Dance Devil Dance", which, in addition to the tried and tested stylistic metal ingredients, placed greater emphasis on hard rock - as evidenced, for example, by a duet with Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale.The band around singer Johannes Eckerström consciously decided on their band name two decades ago, because an avatar - the appearance of a divine being in the form of a person - describes how the frontman and his bandmates feel. Since then, Avatar have occupied the throne in their world of heavy metal beyond all sub-genres as dark visionaries, an act that is always out of the ordinary - and where you can expect surprising new elements with every new album.Founded 22 years ago as Lost Soul, Avatar made their debut under their current band name in2006 with "Thoughts Of No Tomorrow". Eight more studio albums followed in a consistent two-year rhythm, as well as a rapid success that immediately crossed the borders of Europe. With their last two albums, Avatar explored their sound to new peaks and went to the next level of their career. While the eighth album "Hunter Gatherer" from 2020 became the darkest release of the band so far, on which the Swedes moved thematically between cruelty, the dark side of technology, contempt and loss and presented dark anthems with songs like "A Secret Door" and "Age Of Apes", the current "Dance Devil Dance" offers a hard-rocking accessibility like no album of theirs before.In addition to the two already mentioned heads, the band consisting of the second guitarist Tim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin and drummer John Alfredsson has never stood still in the two decades of its existence, but has always evolved stylistically. With this courage of progression, Avatar have gradually conquered new countries and territories, reaching the top of the US rock charts with the single "The Dirt I'm Buried In" and securing their place on the playlists of commercial radio stations years ago. Songs like "The Eagle Has Landed," "Hail The Apocalypse" and "Let It Burn" have been streamed more than 100 million times.Avatar live in a world of heavy metal in all its many forms - and translate it into energetic live shows that you won't soon forget. In spring of next year, the dark visionaries will resurrect the "Great Metal Circus" in Germany for five concerts.
