Babuko + süperdisko party

In the organizer's words:

Babuko - actually a Kurdish-Alevi specialty from the region around Erzincan in north-eastern Turkey - is also a direct statement by the two Düsseldorf musicians Nadin Tanriverdiand Uğur Kepenek as to where the influences on their band come from. Anyone expecting traditional music will be surprised. As Babuko, the two combine their hybrid cultural identities and diverse musical influences to create a fresh post-Anatolian electronic dance and pop sound. Nadin uses Alevi and her own poems in her lyrics. Uğur, otherwise on the road as a rapping social worker or on battles, creates electronic-pop sounds & deep beats, to which he adds a discreetly dosed portion of Anatolian-Alevi mysticism with his ney (long flute).

The Düsseldorf duo Babuko represents a new (Muslim-read) post-migrant generation and artists - born and raised in Germany, shaped by diverse cultural roots, backgrounds and influences, they unite these into new self-confident hybrid identities, which in turn unite and positively represent this diversity. In doing so, they break through common, constructed images and stereotypes about people of Muslim and migrant backgrounds and the cultural incompatibility with constructed Christian-Western values and cultural characteristics.

A little background story about süperdisko and the party at Arty Farty:

The first süperdisko (back then without a proper name as Anatolian Funk Party) celebrated a legendary debut 11 years ago in the Arty Farty Gallery & Bar (back then still on Brüsseler Platz!).

From the small Turkish delicatessen parties in the back rooms of Cologne bars, the süperdisko was born in the Arty Farty Gallery & Bar, when it was bursting at the seams that evening with a colorful crowd of night owls and a diverse (post) migrant (Muslim read) diaspora - in the unconscious search for a home in nightlife and club culture that gives space to and represents their hybrid identities. A party that breaks down and merges musical and cultural boundaries. 11 years later, Süperdisko, probably the oldest and longest regularly irregular diasporic-hybrid party series, is still campaigning for more cultural diversity in club and subculture.

Incidentally, the Turkish rap legend Kabus Kerim, who achieved superstar status in Turkey as part of the migrant hip hop crew Cartel and filled entire stadiums with Türkrap, was due to perform at the Antolian Funk Party in the Arty Farty Gallery. In the mid-1990s, Cartel were on the move and well-known in the German hip-hop scene, influencing an entire generation not only in Turkey, but also the migrant worker kids in the diaspora.

Well, Kabus Kerim had to cancel at short notice. But the place was packed with random night owls and Kabus Kerim fans from all over NRW, eagerly awaiting an Anatolian funk and rap set from the master... It was the first time Burakete host and resident DJ was standing in front of such a large audience and (almost) alone. With Elektro Hafiz as short-term support on the effects, Burakete turns up the Anatolian Funk sound and a short time later nobody stands still and the whole bar becomes a dance floor - a new legend is born...

The Anatolian Funk night soon became the süperdisko party series. From the initial focus and representation of Turkish vinyl rarities (Turkish delicacies), the sound spectrum has not only grown in a variety of directions and genres of electronic varieties, synthpop or boogie breaks. Süperdisko represents and provides space for diverse contemporary artists from the Muslim diaspora.
100% club-ready, 1000% party

Everyone is welcome, regardless of (constructed) cultural, religious, national, ethnic or gender identities and attitudes. Süperdisko stands for diversity, tolerance and mutual respect. We want to live and celebrate this idea with you. You can contact the organizers at any time if you feel harassed, harassed, offended or similar.
