In the organizer's words:
Robert Soko (BalkanBeats Inc./BA/D)
On September 12, Robert Soko brings his legendary Balkanbeats party series to the Gretchen: a night where Balkan brass, Eastern European pop and driving club beats have been coming together since the late 90s.
At the end of the 90s, when Berlin was reinventing itself and clubs were more promises than business models, Robert Soko started something that would later become a cosmos of its own: Music from ex-Yugoslavia, Roma brass, turbo folk, Eastern European pop, mixed with breakbeats, hip-hop and electronica. Loud, over-the-top and emotional.
Balkanbeats has always been a piece of diaspora history, with music between homesickness and excess, between political breaking point and pure escapism. It's not about museum archives, but about friction.
The phrase "Jebo te Kunst" was not marketing at the time, but defiance, directed against elitist cultural thinking, against the idea that certain sounds only work in concert halls. Especially in 2026, this attitude is more relevant than ever.
