In the organizer's words:
When one of the most distinctive voices in German acting meets contemporary American literature, the result is more than just a classic reading: Ben Becker presents T.C. Boyle's new novel, "No Way Home", at the Kulturraffinerie K714. The fact that Becker is coming to Monheim am Rhein for this event is a real highlight. The exceptional artist, known from cinema hits such as "Comedian Harmonists", striking Tatort roles or his stage monologue "I, Judas", stands for an intensity that gets under your skin.
Even before the official publication of the book, Becker and Boyle presented the work together on a reading tour. This intensive collaboration resulted in an artistic friendship, thanks to which Becker makes the extremes of the characters tangible like no other. The story takes us to the Nevada desert: young doctor Terry inherits his mother's house and falls into a dangerous maelstrom when he meets the manipulative Bethany. What was planned as a new beginning quickly turns into a nightmare with Bethany's ex-boyfriend Jesse.
Boyle masterfully plays with the question of good and evil by telling the story from opposing perspectives. Ben Becker not only lends these characters his distinctive timbre, but also all of his acting prowess. He allows the audience to look into deep abysses and lends the story a third dimension that goes far beyond the printed word. With this evening, the Kulturraffinerie K714 becomes a stage for an exclusive voice that makes world literature physically tangible. A must for all those who want to experience literary depth and the power of performance in a special atmosphere.
