Certain Songs (AT) is a play about the human desire for the one voice that promises us safe guidance into the uncertain terrain of future realities with all-encompassing truth. Which voice gives us support and direction? Which authority meets us with empathy and which voice is our own? Who speaks to us and, above all, who do we listen to?

Between ancient oracles, nature worship and Christian rituals, between the voice of our mothers in our heads, algorithms and "Truth Social", the search for the one, true voice that gives us and our actions orientation for the success of the future has accompanied mankind since the beginning of time and with changing history. In Certain Songs (AT), we encounter this polyphony in the person of a seer in partly newly created texts and literary fragments, in language, sound and music, in movement and action and surrounded by changing, AI-generated landscapes. Her body becomes an object, her mouth a mouthpiece of polyphony - in both a direct and figurative sense: she sings and speaks in voices and echoes, tells of reality and visions of the future and takes the audience on a multi-perspective contemplation of man's eternal longing for guidance, direction and clarity by means of performative and audio-installative, acoustic atmospheres.

Ben J. Riepe, born in 1979, studied dance and choreography at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. After graduating, he worked as a stage dancer at the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and with V.A. Wölfl / NEUER TANZ, among others. A freelance choreographer since 2006, he has been running his own production facility in Düsseldorf since 2010. He has received excellence funding since 2018 and institutionalized funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2024. Most recently, his transmedia opera GESCHÖPFE (2020) and the music theater performance EVER|RÊVE (2023) premiered at tanzhaus nrw.
