The beautiful and clever Viola, twin sister of Sebastian, has been separated from her brother in a shipwreck and comes ashore in Illyria. There she decides to go into service with the noble Duke Orsino, but disguised as a man under the name Caesario. Duke Orsino takes a liking to the young nobleman Caesario/Viola and sends him as a messenger of love to the rich Countess Olivia, for whom Orsino pines in love but has not yet been answered. Viola/Caesario, who has fallen head over heels in love with Duke Orsino, naturally finds such errands to the countess extremely unpleasant. When the otherwise so inaccessible Countess Olivia falls in love with the love messenger Caesario/Viola, things seem to go round in circles. What's more, Malvolio, the Countess's steward, also pines for Countess Olivia and is encouraged to do so by a forged letter from the servants, which amuses Sir Toby Belch, Olivia's uncle and his friend and drinking companion Sir Andrew Aguecheek.

Bernd Lafrenz was awarded the Honorary Prize Kleinkunst Baden Württemberg on April 30, 2019 at the Capitol in Mannheim for his many years of work as a Shakespeare solo comedian.
