Fantasy and escapism are all well and good, but what happens when you buckle down and set a course straight to the core of your own cold, hard reality? For two albums, the quartet Black Honey - frontwoman Izzy Bee Phillips, guitarist Chris Ostler, bassist Tommy Taylor and drummer Alex Woodward - lived in a glittering, sepia-toned magic realm of their own making. It undeniably served them well. The cult underground favorites from 2018's self-titled debut had their breakthrough three years later with top ten follow-up "Written & Directed." Now follows with "A Fistful Of Peaches" the third throw and thus already their second number one record in the UK Independent Album Charts. Here the band from Brighton shows its most intimate and honest side so far and delivers a record that depicts the entire spectrum of human emotions, from the pleasant to the cruel, from darkness to light. But even if the content has changed, the music remains the constantly transforming indie-punk-pop, which sometimes comes drenched in nostalgia and then again straight to the twelve. With this, Black Honey have not only landed support slots for the likes of Liam Gallagher, The Libertines, Idles and The Vaccines and shone at headlining shows and festival appearances, but have also built up a legion of enthusiastic fans. Their third album exudes the same musical courage with which Black Honey made renowned stages and arenas their home. Izzy has become something of a pied piper for life's runaways, for those who remember a difficult youth and are desperately trying to find connection and understanding in an often impossible world. The result can be seen in the front row at every Black Honey concert: Dedicated fans who support the band's message of acceptance in any form. This is expressed on the new album more clearly than ever, but one hundred percent at every show. And who knows, maybe the concert in Cologne will be joined by one or two other shows.Presented by kulturnews and MusikBlog.de. -
