200 YEARS OF PHOTOGRAPHY

The history:

Nicephore Niépce had been experimenting with fixing images produced by the camera obscura on his Le Gras estate in the village of Saint-Loup-de-Varennes south of Chalon-sur-Saone in Burgundy(la Bourgogne) for some time. In the early fall of 1826, he took the world's first light-resistant photograph (known today), a view from the window of his study under the roof with an exposure time of eight hours. He used a 16.5×21 cm metal plate with a coating of light-sensitive asphalt, a chemical substance. This hardened when exposed to light and thus captured the image. Niépce called his process heliography.
