In the mood for classical music? Then come to the Kölner Philharmonie when the Gürzenich Orchestra celebrates the end of the semester together with the students of our city. Under the motto "Concert & Kölsch", you can look forward to an evening with top-class artists in a relaxed atmosphere. After the concert, Leon Weber aka LCAW and Gürzenich Orchestra percussionist Uwe Mattes invite you to a performance of Steve Reich's "Six Pianos" in an adaptation for live electronics with marimba. Free drink included!
About the program:
Impressive stuff, you simply have to experience it live: In his piece Helix , Finnish composer Esa-Pekka Salonen drives the orchestra into a breathtaking maelstrom of speed and intensity. With Jean Sibelius, on the other hand, you can literally hear the grass grow. His Symphony No. 2 is a case in point: a living musical being gradually unfolds from three notes, like a sounding organism. Conductor Tarmo Peltokoski knows how music from his homeland should sound. And piano star Jan Lisiecki undertakes a pianistic rollercoaster ride in Grieg's demanding piano concerto.
