With Flourish With Fireworks, Oliver Knussen composed a spectacular "opener", which opens the musica viva concert with the BRSO. This is followed by the world premiere of Liza Lim' s new cello concerto A Sutured World with Nicolas Altstaedt. The title already hints at the central theme of the composer's life: the complex relationships between different cultures. Intercultural encounters can also be found in the furious orchestral classic Three Screaming Popes by Mark-Anthony Turnage. The program concludes with Knussen's unfinished orchestral cycle Cleveland Pictures, which musically stages the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
