CAMBAZ'S FUNERAL

An award-winning absurdist comedy by Firüze Engin 

With dark humor and the techniques of absurdist theater, Firüze Engin tells the story of a death, a last will and testament, and a piece of land whose sale reveals hidden conflicts within a community. In the process, a multi-layered story unfolds about family ties and the consequences of urbanization, gentrification, and social change.

The play combines contemporary social criticism with the traditional Turkish art of storytelling known as meddah.

With“Cambaz’s Funeral,” Arternum e.V. presents the first German-language translation and stage production of the award-winning play by Turkish playwright Firüze Engin. The production gives German-speaking audiences access to a significant work of contemporary Turkish theater.
