There are few voices more deeply embedded in the iconography and mythology of American indie rock than that of Chan Marshall. Under the musical moniker Cat Power, Marshall has been releasing music for nearly 25 years, and her skills as a songwriter, producer and, most importantly, as a voice have become increasingly influential over time.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she began her career in the New York underground scene and released her debut album Dear Sir in 1995. Her breakthrough came a few years later with Moon Pix (1998), a critically acclaimed work that she recorded in Australia with members of the Dirty Three. The album is still regarded today as a milestone in introspective songwriting - raw, vulnerable and poetic at the same time. In the years that followed, Cat Power developed into one of the most charismatic and versatile artists of her generation. Albums such as You Are Free (2003), The Greatest (2006) and Sun (2012) showed her ability to break through musical styles and reinvent herself time and again - from minimalist ballads to soul-soaked arrangements and electronically colored soundscapes. In addition to her own work, Marshall is also known for her extraordinary cover versions, in which she transfers songs by other artists into radically new emotional contexts. Her album Covers, released in 2022, impressively summarizes this special gift. With her unmistakable voice - sometimes soft and fragile, sometimes powerful and passionate - Cat Power has gained a loyal fan base and great respect in the music scene over the years. Her songs tell of loneliness, longing, healing and the tireless search for authenticity. Whether solo with guitar or piano, or accompanied by a band: Cat Power stands for a radically honest form of songwriting that touches deeply and resonates for a long time.
