Oh Snap - Germany 2026
"The best jazz singer of the last decade" (New York Times) Back on German live stages in October 2026 Exclusive shows in Essen, Munich, Monheim, Hamburg, Berlin and Hanover
An old soul with futuristic ambitions and a voice so contemporary that it seems to transcend space and time - that's Cécile McLorin Salvant. Showered with praise, awarded Grammys and honored with prestigious prizes such as the MacArthur Foundation grant, the 36-year-old singer is considered an exceptional talent. The Guardian called her a "genius of jazz", Der Spiegel saw her as the "heir to Billie Holiday", and the New York Times simply called her "the best jazz singer of the last decade".
Courageous and unpredictable, she combines the traditions of blues, jazz and folk with the attitude of hip-hop and the passion and drama of artists such as Björk and Kate Bush. Her singing is intense, almost painfully beautiful - borne by a deep understanding of musical history and at the same time by an uncompromising urge for artistic freedom.
Cécile McLorin Salvant's latest work, "Ogresse", is a musical fable in the form of a cantata that combines various genres such as folk, baroque, jazz and country. The arrangement is by Darcy James Argue and is conceived for a thirteen-piece orchestra of multi-instrumentalists. The work deals with themes such as fetishism, hunger, diaspora, cycles of appropriation, lies, othering and ecology.
"Ogresse" is currently being developed into an animated feature film, which Salvant will direct himself. In October, Cécile McLorin Salvant will once again unleash her immense charisma on German stages!
