Cine Latino (May 9 to 14) offers the best of Latin American cinema, with hand-picked films that have won awards at many international festivals. In cooperation with OFF//FOTO, we are showing with a film introduction:

Humanist, activist and award-winning photographer - Claudia Andujar's life was characterized by numerous dramatic events, from her escape from the Holocaust to her work in Brazil since the 1950s, where she found her life's mission: the protection of the Yanomami people in the Amazon region. This multifaceted portrait of the renowned artist follows in the footsteps of her political and poetic photographs in the threatened rainforest region, where Andujar campaigns against the overexploitation and brutal actions of gold diggers, militias, timber companies and cattle ranchers. And passes on the baton: A young generation of indigenous people use their film reports to inform people about the threat to the rainforest and about the rich traditions and unique habitat of their people.

Documentary filmmaker Heidi Specogna has received numerous awards for her film work, including the Swiss Film Prize for THE SHORT LIFE OF JOSÉ ANTONIO GUTIERREZ (2006) and for CAHIER AFRICAIN (2016), for which she was also awarded the German Film Prize, the Grimme Prize and the Silver Dove in Leipzig. In 2019, she was awarded the Konrad Wolf Prize of the Academy of Arts, Berlin. She is a professor at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
