The classic of this year's program, which is returning to cinemas in a restored version, is a Rumbera melodrama about morality, corruption, injustice and social reality. Leading actress Ninón Sevilla, a great star of Mexican cinema as a dancer and actress, made it possible to finance the film, a perfectly balanced blend of melodrama and analysis of political disparities that is perfectly formed and visually intoxicating.
Julio Bracho (1909-1978), Mexican director and screenwriter, came to film via the theater and directed 50 films from 1941 onwards.
