CJW Ahead: acoustic ambient ensemble
In the organizer's words:
Our second Cologne Jazzweek Pre-Event 2026: The acoustic ambient ensemble in a special space: the auditorium of the Apostelgymnasium Cologne!
With the "acoustic ambient ensemble", Pascal Klewer continues to develop his work between compositional research, improvised structure and emotional repetition. The focus is on repeatable musical cells - as a collective practice, as a space for perception, development and reflection on form.
The process-focused cells are and were part of a process that began at the Kulturakademie Tarabya (2025) (solo organ), continued in a four-day Deutschlandfunk production (fall 25) and is now being further explored in Cologne with an outstanding cast of musicians from the improvised and contemporary scene.
Pascal Klewer is a composer, trumpeter and curator of the 222 Festival, the label stssts records and the series monday meetings (co-curator). He has conducted the WDR Bigband, written for numerous ARD films, received a scholarship from the Kulturakademie Tarabya, Kunststiftung NRW and the Bartels Foundation, was awarded the Composition Prize of the Bundesjazzorchester and the New German Jazz Prize and is a lecturer in composition/arrangement and trumpet at the HMTM Hannover.
