COLLUMINA III - Third edition of the international light art project in Cologne

The light art project COLLUMINA III will once again present fascinating light installations in Cologne. From October 26 to November 4, 2023, unlike in previous years, the light art works will be shown exclusively in the Haus der Stiftungen and in the exhibition spaces of Galerie Seippel at Zeughausstraße 26, every evening from 6pm to 2pm.

This year's renowned artists include ASKI, Hartung I Trenz, Jacqueline Hen, Mischa Kuball, Esteban Pastorino, François Schwamborn and the artist group XENORAMA. While the artist ASKI installs his work GLUT on the complete facade of the building and makes it playable for the audience via an app, Hartung I Trenz will illuminate the ground floor of Galerie Seippel with LIGHTSCAPE, Mischa Kuball with Five Suns (After Galileo) and François Schwamborn with Recursion. Jacqueline Hen shows her Off Grid Series and One's sunset is another one's sunrise in the project space of the PetoMadew Cultural Foundation. In addition, Luminous Objects by the artist group XENORAMA and Light Boxes by Esteban Pastorino will be on view in the 2nd floor exhibition space.

COLLUMINA is organized by art historian and curator Dr. Ralf-P. Seippel, who launched the project in 2018. Seippel initiated COLLUMINA I as part of a transnational collaboration and dialogue with the Halifax, Canada-based light art project //Responsive, which he developed and co-organized. In 2020, despite the pandemic, COLLUMINA II was a great success with numerous audiences, as it was mostly in public spaces. In 2022 COLLUMINA curated the light art exhibition PANTA RHEI. Alles fließt. in the historic waterworks Severin II on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of RheinEnergie. The exhibition, which lasted more than 150 days, was very well received, as evidenced by the enormous number of visitors. COLLUMINA III is curated this year by Lily McLeish.

COLLUMINA is a private initiative and is made possible thanks to foundations and sponsors. This year's partners/organizers are Haus der Stiftungen, PetoMadew Kulturstiftung, Galerie Biesenbach and Galerie Seippel.
