Coming Out (1989) - Queerer Filmabend mit Popcorn
In the organizer's words:
A queer GDR film by director Heiner Carow. This is the first and only DEFA film to openly address homosexuality in the GDR. We, the Queer Working Group of Die Linke Leipzig, are screening it at the Klinke community center.
In East Berlin, the young teacher Philipp initially begins a relationship with his colleague Tanja, before one of her old friends turns out to be Philipp’s childhood sweetheart. At the time, Philipp’s parents had forbidden their son from having a same-sex relationship and had ended the affair. The chance reunion plunges Philipp into a crisis, and he begins an affair with another young man. Only gradually does he manage to come to terms with his sexual orientation.
