COMPANIA SINCARA SPIELT WIE ES EUCH GEFÄLLT ODER WAS IHR WOLLT

In the organizer's words:

Loosely based on William Shakespeare

Compania Sincara plays Shakespeare - differently! The group brought the tragedy about the Prince of Denmark to the stage at Schauspiel Leipzig's discotheque - told in a comedic way by the masked characters with sharp wit and a new spirit: Kerbel, Waldemar and Eusebius are waiting - with Hamlet, because time is out of joint. The clowns reappeared at the Schaubühne Lindenfels and wildly performed "As you like it or As you wish". In doing so, they pranced along many a wrong path, of which there are many in Shakespeare. In any case, it was a truly Shakespearean season for Leipzig with Compania Sincara, its masked characters and their view of the world.

The Compania Sincara collective, which was awarded the Leipzig Movement Art Prize in 2020, is one of the most unusual theater phenomena in the German-speaking world in recent years with its unique mask theater art and a style that combines tradition and innovation. At the heart of the artistic work are the company's masked figures, lovingly anarchistic clowns, relatives of Chaplin's Charlie or Beckett's Wladimir & Estragon, notorious border crossers who, as if in a foreign country, study people here and there and are only too happy to share their findings with us. In 2022 / 23, Compania Sincara was the first recipient of the "Im Dreiklang für Leipzig" grant from the Leipzig Department of Culture and, in the course of this, developed one production each in collaboration with the Schaubühne Lindenfels and Schauspiel Leipzig.

Both productions can now be experienced once again: On April 24 and 25, "Hamlet" can be seen at Schauspiel Leipzig 's discotheque and on May 21 and 22, "As You Like It or What You Want" at the Schaubühne.

"The audience listens breathlessly. Yes: Shakespeare is and remains the greatest. And this production knows how to show this in the most beautiful and foolish way. The rest is enthusiastic applause." (LVZ)
