Based on the novels "Wie Tortot sein Fischherz verlor" and "Ganze Geschichten für einen halben Soldaten" by Benny Lindelauf

The family is sitting at the kitchen table eating together when a letter arrives with ominous news: the five eldest siblings have to go to war, while the youngest brother Georg is left behind alone. To prepare their little brother for the situation, his siblings make up a story for him. In this story, Georg is caught up in the war, experiences terrible things and suffers losses. But he also gets to know the cook Tortot, who gives him shelter in his kitchen. And they also tell Georg how he might even be able to help end a senseless war.

THE COOK AND THE HALF SOLDIER is a co-production of tjg. theater junge generation and Laika, Theater der Sinne, Flanders (BE) with financial support from the Flemish government. The production can be seen as part of the Leipzig Book Fair 2024 with the guest countries Netherlands and Flanders.

THE SAXON THEATERTREFFEN
Every two years, theaters from Annaberg-Buchholz to Zittau, from Plauen to Radebeul come together for the Saxon Theatertreffen. After 10 years, Leipzig will once again be the venue in May 2024, with the TDJW and Schauspiel Leipzig as hosts.
In addition to eleven municipal, state and regional theaters, the program also includes productions from the independent theater scene.
