Companion Songs moves between experimental folk, edgy and beautiful pop songs and driving kraut-rock moments with a lot of playfulness. The duo have a long friendship dating back to their teenage years, their first guitar band and home recordings in the rehearsal room. Even though their musical paths diverged afterwards, the friendship remained and since 2020 the two busy musicians have reunited as a band.
With their latest album "The Time We Hold", they leave their instrumental beginnings behind and open an exciting new chapter. Between great intimacy and energetic rock moments, there is a gripping simplicity. "With the new songs, we wanted to shed a few musical ramifications and see how far we could get with just one thing in our luggage." This is palpable. Their music brings a lot of closeness, warm guitars, beautifully simple and with a lot of heart - somewhere between Luke Temple and Big Thief. On the other hand, there's also some hit material, with brittle back beats and bouncy, beautiful guitar riffs reminiscent of Dirty Projectors or Sam Evian. And between all of this, hypnotic song networks and rhythmic intermediate worlds unfold again and again, in which you can lose yourself before being picked up again by catchy melodies.
