In the organizer's words:
"We ain't got no place to go...so let's go to the punk rock show!"
The term punk first appeared in Shakespeare and referred to outsiders. From the 1970s onwards, it became a movement that turned art, music and society upside down. Punk was more than just loud protest. It was the response of many young people to political stagnation, social inequality and economic hardship. With its radical DIY spirit, punk created a new visual language. Fans designed jackets, posters and rooms themselves. Artists such as Jamie Reid, who shaped the image of British punk with his typography collages, and Winston Smith, who formed the look of the Dead Kennedys, became central voices of this aesthetic. Their imagery continues to have an impact today and influences designers and artists worldwide. At the same time, the original idea of punk has often lost its edge.
This is whereCOPY + PASTE comes in. The exhibition is the result of a direct exchange with the creators of this movement and those who carry it forward: Shepard Fairey, INVADER and NoNÅME. Fairey has been translating the DIY idea into political imagery for decades. INVADER brings punk into the digital era with thousands of mosaics in public spaces. NoNÅME stands for a new, reflective generation that transforms the spirit of punk into avant-garde art. This compilation shows that punk is alive and well. As an attitude, as a drive, as a vision for a changing world.
