***CRASH OF RHINOS (Emo/Math, UK)

Crash of Rhinos release their first album in 13 years: Logbook.
Self-produced and recorded in an empty library and a remote Cumbrian barn, the album has taken the band years to shape after they quietly reformed four years ago.
Crash of Rhinos broke up in 2014, shortly after releasing their second album Knots. Their first album, Distal, turned 10 in 2021 and the band got together in Derbyshire to run through the tunes to see if the chemistry was there for some possible anniversary shows. They had a great time. So good that they scrapped the anniversary show idea and started writing new songs.
Their lives are very different than before. Their perspectives have widened and matured. Their appreciation of each other has deepened. And they sound more mellow and yet more intense at the same time.

***OAKHANDS (Sturm&Drang, Munich)

Oakhands are a Munich/Berlin-based band working at the intersection of post-hardcore, emo, screamo and experimental indie rock, a sound they navigate under the self-coined term Sturm & Drang, a deliberate reference to the German pre-classical movement that favored raw emotional directness over formal convention. Founded in Munich in 2014, the band have from the outset treated their work as a total artistic practice, with music, film and visual language developed in parallel, each strand inseparable from the others.

Following their 2016 debut EP Age of Swans, their first full-length The Shadow Of Your Guard Receding (This Charming Man Records, 2020) treated individual feelings as compositional problems, loosely structured around Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions, and drew attention well beyond the German scene. Their 2023 EP A Circle with Many Centres, a reference to a short story by Haruki Murakami, marks a deliberate departure: where the debut analyzed, the EP surrenders. Depression, its central subject, is treated not as a concept to be mapped but as a condition to be inhabited. Math-pop precision gives way to post-punk bluntness, doom sits alongside blast beats in major keys, power ballads absorb what the screams leave unresolved.

The visual work emerges from within the band itself, a practice of surrealist films and layered video narratives that extends the music's logic rather than decorates it. The same refusal of convention carries over to the live show: no frontal staging, no hierarchy, the band performing in a circle that deliberately collapses the distance between band and room. Their unique approach had led them to share stages with an eclectic cast of artists like Moor Mother, Touche Amoré, Foxing, PG99, Asian Dub Foundation and even as part of Munich's International Dance Music Festival.

As part of Munich's CoreChaos collective, Oakhands actively shape the subcultural landscape they emerged from, championing the venues, networks and sounds that make independent music possible. In a city under sustained gentrification pressure, that commitment is not incidental to the work. It is part of it.
