Curator's View

During our Curator's View tour, you will accompany the curatorial team through the F.C. Gundlach exhibition and gain an in-depth insight into the photographer's multifaceted oeuvre and photographic collection. Using selected works and exciting background stories, the tour takes you through key stages of his work - from iconic fashion photographs and never-before-seen works to works by his companions and role models, such as Erwin Blumenfeld and Cindy Sherman.

How has Gundlach shaped the image of fashion, identity and gender roles in German and international magazines since the 1950s? And how do his photographs reflect social developments and visual trends of their time? The exhibition explores these questions and shows the influence the photographer and his works had on the international photography discourse and how groundbreaking Gundlach's visions are for our understanding of images today. During the guided tour, the curatorial team will approach the topic from different perspectives and present highlights from the exhibition. Find out how the exhibition was conceived and what stories and meanings are hidden behind the works.
