Cyrus Chestnut is considered the world's leading jazz pianist of his generation. Born in Baltimore in 1963, he received his first piano lessons from his father and was playing piano at the age of seven in the Mount Calvary Star Baptist Church in his home town. He attended the Peabody Institute and studied jazz composition and arranging at Berklee College of Music from 1981 to 1985. There he received the Oscar Peterson Scholarship in 1983 and the Quincy Jones Scholarship in 1984, among others. From then on he worked as a sideman with musicians such as Donald Harrison, Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Branford Marsalis, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie, George Adams, James Moody, Jon Hendricks, Joe Williams and in Betty Carter's band. Since the early 1990s, he has released 24 albums of his own with Christian McBride, James Carter, Joe Lovano, Ron Carter, Billy Higgins, Gary Bartz and Lewis Nash, among others. He has also performed in groups such as the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra. In his trio, he is accompanied by two internationally renowned and experienced musicians. The American bassist Darryl Hall won the Thelonious Monk International Bass Competition in 1996 and has lived in New York and Paris ever since. With his virtuosity, warm sound and unerring beat, he is the first choice of many soloists and has worked with Regina Carter, Ravi Coltrane, Mark Murphy, Cedar Walton, Harold Mabern and many others. The Austrian drummer Bernd Reiter, winner of the Hans Koller Prize in 2006 and, after years in Munich and Paris, now living in Austria and New York again, has also played with many jazz greats such as Don Menza, Charles Davis, Harold Mabern, Kirk Lightsey, Mundell Lowe, Steve Grossman, Claudio Roditi and many more. This exceptional trio offers thrillingly energetic and swinging music at the highest level, performed with professionalism and enthusiasm, simply "Jazz at its Best"!!!
