Daniel Gerlach, "one of Germany's leading Middle East experts" (ZDF, heute journal), is going on a reading tour with his new book "The Art of Peace". Under the title "Fighting for Peace in the Middle East", he will be speaking live in Hamburg, Munich, Berlin and Cologne about deals, negotiations and secret diplomacy in a crisis region that is inextricably linked to Europe's fate.

The Middle East - a region that has always fascinated Europe. For centuries, it has been regarded as a perpetual trouble spot - a region where conflicts are fought exclusively by force. But is this image true? In his book "The Art of Peace", published by C.Bertelsmann on November 25, 2025, Daniel Gerlach tells a different story. In a ride through over 3,000 years, he paints a panorama of secret diplomacy, courageous negotiators, risky strategies and adventurous encounters.

Daniel Gerlach is not only an author and chronicler, but also actively involved in peace work himself. For years, he was involved in discreet negotiations between hostile groups - including in the Israeli-Palestinian context and in Syria. He reports first-hand on discussions with decision-makers and on the often invisible processes behind political upheavals: How did the Assad regime fall - and what is currently happening in Syria? Daniel Gerlach, born in 1977, is one of Germany's leading Middle East experts. He studied History and Oriental Studies at the Universities of Hamburg and Paris IV Sorbonne and is the author and editor of several non-fiction books on the history and present of the Arab-Islamic world. He regularly appears in German and international media and is a presenter of the ZDF series "The Last Secrets of the Orient". His book of the same name was published by C.Bertelsmann in 2022. Daniel Gerlach is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Middle East specialist magazine zenith and director of the think tank Candid Foundation in Berlin. He is also involved in peace and dialog initiatives in the Middle East in an advisory capacity.
