"Das bisschen Haushalt, sagt mein Mann" Die Frau im Deutschen Schlager
In the organizer's words:
How does German Schlager music reflect societal role models? In his entertaining and insightful program, Rainer Moritz explores the portrayal of women in German-language Schlager music—and how that portrayal has changed over the decades.
For a long time, the roles were clearly defined: women waited patiently, cared for their families, or remained confined to traditional gender roles. Songs like “Cindy oh Cindy” or “Junge, komm bald wieder” are prime examples of this early phase, in which female perspectives were heavily standardized.
With the social upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s, this image began to change. Self-assured, ironic, and independent female figures came to the forefront—such as Gitte, Juliane Werding, Johanna von Koczian, and Ina Deter, who made a clear statement with “Neue Männer braucht das Land.”
Rainer Moritz traces this transformation in an entertaining and incisive way, drawing on numerous musical examples—from classic Schlager hits to modern interpretations like those by Andrea Berg. The result is a lively journey through music history, society, and gender roles.
An entertaining evening full of Schlager gems, memories, and opportunities to sing along.
