At the end of the anniversary year "50 years of city partnership Leipzig - Brno 2023"

They were one of the most influential powers in Eastern Europe. An elite among the nomadic peoples, an island of diversity between Christian and Islamic empires: the Khazars. They climbed to the top ... but then they suddenly disappeared. Only the dictionary remained. But even that hasn't been seen for years.
The scant evidence of the existence and nature of this remarkable people was to be provided by the reconstruction of the famous traveling exhibition "History and Fall of the Khazar Empire". Almost forty years ago, it burned down under unexplained circumstances. But thanks to the care of a team of several international scientists, it has been almost completely restored and is now open to the public again, providing a glimpse into the past to inform about our future.

The adaptation of the cult novel of the same name by Serbian writer Milorad Pavić, directed by Jan Mikulášek, poetically and fanatically transforms the interplay of identities, contradictory facts and images into a "museum of dreams and human follies". Intended by Pavić in 1988 as a "warning for the small peoples who are exposed to the pressure of the great ideologies, religions and powers of this world", the text is experiencing a new topicality today. "The director succeeds (...) in creating a timeless production that makes the interweaving of the dream logic visually and visually powerful in the interweaving of text and staging." (Theater der Zeit)

Before the production begins, there will be an introduction in German at 7:15 pm.
