Twelve-year-old Karli (John Silas) moves to the Alps, where his parents (Marie Jung and Oliver Rosskopf) fulfill their dream of owning their own hotel. Instead of going on vacation, however, Karli is forced to scowl and help his parents scrape off old wallpaper. But then he discovers that he can use the old elevator to travel back in time to 1938! There, Karli makes friends with the Jewish girl Hannah (Annika Benzin) and the shoeshine boy Georg (Maximilian Reinwald). Together they solve an exciting criminal case and Karli increasingly realizes what a shadow lies over the world of his new friends.
