Denkmalschutz und Denkmalpflege: Erwartung – Auftrag – Anspruch
In the organizer's words:
>> Historic Preservation and Conservation: Expectations – Mission – Standards <<
In 2014, the AFR devoted an entire year to the topic of the current interrelationships between historic preservation and conservation—still under the old Historic Preservation Act—under the title >> Think: Preservation! <<
Twelve years later, there are, in some cases, differing expectations within society and politics regarding this issue and the work of our historic preservation authorities. These expectations and demands have changed significantly since the introduction of the North Rhine-Westphalia Historic Preservation Act in 1980—especially over the past twenty years. In many cases, public expectations do not align with the legal mandate that governs the actions of heritage authorities. Due to a noticeably changed social climate toward the institution of heritage preservation, a critical review is now necessary to develop a distinct, nuanced approach to heritage preservation .
