What begins as a funeral mass quickly turns into a bitter dispute when an Ackermann confronts Death himself at his young wife's coffin...
Dominik Wilgenbus' intimate play based on the well-known Ackermann von Böhmen by Johannes von Tepl is a play of timeless power about love, loss and the right to happiness.
Guido Drell embodies Ackermann as a passionately rebellious individual whose pain becomes almost physically tangible. Opposite him is Markus Beisl, who represents the inevitability of fate with shattering calm as the cool, logical Death. A soprano voice makes the presence of the deceased Margaretha palpable, while Aris Alexander Blettenberg on the organ builds a tonal bridge between this world and the hereafter.
We begin on June 18 at 6:30 pm with an introduction to the play by Dominik Wilgenbus himself in the parish garden of St. Emmeram. At 7:30 pm, we will move together to the west gallery of the basilica for the requiem mass.
