Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up aboard a spaceship—far from his home on Earth and with no memory of his identity or the reason for his journey into the vastness of space. Slowly and in fragments, his memories finally begin to return. He realizes not only that he was once a science teacher on Earth, but also that he plays a central role in a race against time and is likely on an extremely critical mission. For a mysterious substance threatens the very existence of the Sun—and with it, the survival of all humanity. To prevent a global catastrophe, Grace draws on his scientific knowledge and devises unconventional solutions.
