Science teacher Ryland Grace (RYAN GOSLING) wakes up one day on a spaceship - light years away from home and with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memory gradually returns, he finds out what his mission is: to solve the riddle of a mysterious substance that is causing the sun to go out. In order to save everything and everyone on Earth from extinction, he has to draw on his scientific expertise and some unorthodox ideas.
