DER LZG-LESEKREIS LIEST... Wer möchte nicht im Leben bleiben von Helene Bukowski

The LZG reading group meets once per program period and discusses a work of contemporary German-language literature in a relaxed atmosphere. We would like to offer our reading-loving members a space in which literature can be discovered and discussed together. The reading circle is moderated by board member Sandra Binnert and accompanied by a member of the Literary Center team. This free offer is aimed exclusively at LZG members, registration is required.

About the current work: In 1985, a young pianist takes her own life in Neubrandenburg. Decades later, the writer Helene Bukowski comes across her story. She cautiously approaches Christina, searching her biography for cracks and shocks, but also for moments of great happiness. She gets to know a father who wants to realize his own dreams in his daughter; a mother who loves to take photographs and a piano that stands immovably in the apartment. Bukowski follows Christina to Berlin, to the special school for music, with its cold practice rooms and daily drill. Later to Moscow, to study at the conservatory, through torrential rain and nights full of snow. And she finds an illness for which there is only a diagnosis today. "The way Helene Bukowski reconstructs an entire life from the estate of a young woman and uses it to compose this painful and clear novel is great literature." (Marion Brasch)

The reading circle will take place in the KiZ (Kongresshalle, Südanlage 3a, 35390 Gießen) and will be moderated by Sandra Binnert. The event is aimed exclusively at LZG members. Free admission, registration is required.
