The anthology "Der Pitangabaum der Nachbarin" (Edition Noack & Block, 2025) provides
impressive insights into the country of Guinea-Bissau and its literature. The small,
multi-ethnic country on the West African coast presents itself through five literary
literary voices in its great cultural and social diversity: Waldir Araújo, Amadú
Dafé, Edson Incopté, Claudiany Pereira and Marinho de Pina are exemplary of Guinea-Bissau's literary polyphony. Their novels, short stories, poems and children's
children's books have won numerous awards. The authors move between several
continents and are active in civil society contexts, both locally and in the diaspora.
as well as in the diaspora.
The anthology was published in 2019 under the original title Fora de Jogo (Offside) by Ku Si
Mon in Bissau on the occasion of the publisher's 25th anniversary. The themes of the stories and short stories revolve around family histories, dreams and frustrated life plans, tradition and uprooting, injustices and struggles for freedom.
