In the organizer's words:
He established himself as a brand early on, his films promising sensational stunts and exotic locations. Piel was more globally successful than any other German actor of the 1920s. And yet his work and his success have been largely ignored in film historiography. For some years now, the Film Museum has been making Piel's cinematic work accessible again in elaborate restorations. The exhibition, which accompanies an extensive retrospective in the Black Box, presents selected exhibits from Piel's estate and sheds light on the restoration work. (Source: d:Art/Cultural Office)
