Lecturer: Christiane Meusel
Who or what does the Verfassungsschutz protect? How does it actually differ from the BND? When is someone under observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution? And are there really dead letter boxes?
Lawyer Christiane Meusel, an insider, will provide insights into this special kind of intelligence service on these and many other exciting questions about the intelligence business. From 2013-2019, she was a member of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. In 2021, she received 10,000 euros in compensation from the Berlin Brandenburg State Labor Court because she had fallen ill from doing nothing. At the time, she was represented by Gregor Gysi, who once described the office of the "Schlapphüte" as a whistleblowing club.
She wrote a book of short stories about her personal experiences and now looks after former colleagues, among others, who could tell similar stories. Christiane Meusel grew up in church circles in the GDR and, as a former subject of observation by the Ministry of State Security, can even explain the differences between the various intelligence services. There was an extensive Stasi file on her and her family. Christiane Meusel also met the Stasi with a sense of humor back then, which she has retained to this day. "They can't handle humor," she says, with a twinkle in her eye.
