Travelogue and book presentation by Nina Rühlig

On the coast of western Portugal lies the Fishermen's Trail, a long-distance hiking trail that is rightly considered one of the most beautiful in the world. If you like walking by the sea, the trail from Porto Covo in the Alentejo to Lagos in the Algarve is just right for you.

The fisherman's path winds along the cliffs for around 230 kilometers on mostly narrow paths. It passes small former fishing villages, reaches the most south-westerly point of mainland Europe - the Cabo de São Vicente - and crosses the entire length of the Costa Vicentina Nature Park. Numerous bays and beaches along the way invite you to take a relaxing break and swim - as a balance or complement to hiking.

The impressive pictures of this hike, which Nina Rühlig shows in her presentation, are complemented by insights into the country, its people and its cuisine. She will also present her hiking guide "Portugal: Fischerweg", published by Conrad Stein Verlag in February 2024.

About the speaker
Nina Rühlig is the author of the hiking guidebook "Portugal: Fischerweg", gives lectures about her hiking trips and gives seminars on the topics of equipment, organization and preparation of multi-day tours. She has lived in Rottenburg am Neckar for over 20 years and - when she is not hiking, talking or writing about it - works freelance on the topics of energy, climate, sustainability and regionality.

She has always loved hiking and being outdoors. From 2017 onwards, she increasingly went on hikes lasting several days or weeks. In the summer of 2022, Nina Rühlig hiked alone for 7 weeks in the Pyrenees, covering 930 kilometers with a backpack and tent on her way from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. Other multi-day tours in recent years have often taken her through France (Cevennes, Mercantour, Vanoise and Vosges). She also enjoys hiking close to home in the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb (HW1 Nordrandweg, Zweitälersteig, Westweg, Albsteig).
